You must grant Recontrol Accessibility permission for it to be able to remap your gamepad.
When you first launch Recontrol, you’ll see a warning explaining that the app needs to be granted permission to send inputs on your behalf.
Clicking “Open privacy settings” will take you to a macOS panel where you can check a box next to Recontrol.app to grant it this permission.

Yes, Recontrol is on the list
If you see Recontrol on the list of apps available for granting permission, ensure that the checkbox next to it is checked.
Once the checkbox is enabled, the warning banner should go away.
No, Recontrol is not on the list
If you don’t see Recontrol on the list of apps, you will have to click the “+” at the bottom of the list, navigate to your ~/Applications
folder, select “Recontrol”, and click “Open”.
This should have added Recontrol to the llist of apps available for granting permission. Now, ensure that the checkbox next to Recontrol is checked.
You can navigate to this permissions panel yourself by opening macOS "System Settings", choosing "Privacy & Security" on the sidebar, and then clicking "Accessibility".
